There are different kinds of emissions when it comes to colleges. Generally a college will fall into one of three categories. These categories are the deciding factors as to who gets admitted and who does not to their school.
The first kind of admission that a college uses is the selective process. This includes colleges that have very firm deadline applications that are usually in January. Many of these colleges are moving the deadline back to December as of lately. Making sure you get your application in on time is one of the most important things you can do. Generally these colleges will let you know when and if you are accepted in late March or early April. Then, you have until the beginning of May to decide if you were going to enroll at their college or university. After the beginning of May, if you have not claimed your spot, they will take your name off the list and move down there waiting list.
The next kind of admission that colleges fall under is the rolling admission process. This is where colleges will accept and reject applicants until their freshman class has reached the maximum capacity. You can normally find a date they will begin looking at applications by owner website. You always want to be early when you are applying, especially for a college that uses rolling admission. The good thing about this kind of college is you will know fairly early if you have been accepted or rejected. This way, you can move on fairly quickly to another college.
The last kind of college is an open admission college. These are normally two-year and technical colleges that fall under this category. They will admit anyone and everyone that has a high school diploma or equivalent, until their classes are full.
No matter which kind of college or university you are thinking of attending, you need to apply early and stay on top of the process. Check-in a minimum of once every two or three days to see what is going on and what the status of your account is. Do not think you are bugging people if you call them every couple days and ask what is going on. If they do not want you to call back or it’s not necessary they will tell you. Put your best foot forward and do what needs to be done to better your future.
